Fishair is a great synthetic substitute for ducktail. It's soft and flexible, but also tough and just stiff enough to lend shape to a fly the way ducktail does. Unlike bucktail, the 70-denier Fishair has perfect consistency within each hank and from package to package. At 6 3/4" long, it can be used to make really large saltwater patterns, but you can also cut it shorter to make freshwater-size patterns.
